"Chorale" by Hilde Oleson
After attending Friday night's performance of "Choral Classics" by the Outer Cape Chorale, Provincetown poet Hilde Oleson was inspired to write the following poem;
Chorale
Anchor me, you altos,
Keep me from soaring away
On the crystal notes of the sopranos
I dare not close my eyes
Lest I float upwards
Through the cathedral roof
To not return
My soul has been so hungry for these sounds
Longing to feel the touch of heaven on our earth
One voice, one tiny thread of melody
Blending with a hundred neighbors
Melds into a richness that surrounds and heals
That lifts us from our ordinary lives
Until just for a moment
We are divine.
Chorale
Anchor me, you altos,
Keep me from soaring away
On the crystal notes of the sopranos
I dare not close my eyes
Lest I float upwards
Through the cathedral roof
To not return
My soul has been so hungry for these sounds
Longing to feel the touch of heaven on our earth
One voice, one tiny thread of melody
Blending with a hundred neighbors
Melds into a richness that surrounds and heals
That lifts us from our ordinary lives
Until just for a moment
We are divine.
Hilde Olson is one of the most talented poets I have ever read. This poem is amazing but I am sure other will follow because she is also amazing.
Thank you, Hilde.
